Court dismisses Emeka Ike’s N10bn suit against INEC, Wike’s aide
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed a N10 billion damages suit filed by Nollywood actor Emeka Ike against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Lere Olayinka, an aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The court, in a ruling delivered on Wednesday, dismissed the suit for lacking merit, holding that the actor failed to establish his claims against the defendants with credible evidence.
Ike had instituted the action over the alleged publication of his personal data in INEC’s database, claiming that the actions of the electoral commission and Olayinka caused him hardship and damages.
He sought N10 billion in compensation and asked the court to declare the alleged actions of the defendants illegal and unconstitutional.

Delivering judgment, the presiding judge, Justice Salim Ibrahim, held that the plaintiff failed to demonstrate how the defendants violated his rights.
The judge said Ike had not provided sufficient evidence to substantiate his allegations, adding that the suit lacked merit.
Consequently, the court dismissed the action in favour of INEC and Olayinka.
Justice Ibrahim, however, made no order as to costs but cautioned against filing frivolous lawsuits capable of wasting judicial time.
The dismissal brings the legal action, as described in the proceedings, to an end at the Federal High Court, with the actor’s claims for damages and declaratory reliefs rejected for want of sufficient evidence.
