Czech Embassy warns Nigerian students against fake 2027/2028 scholarship claims

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Nigeria has warned prospective Nigerian students against online information falsely claiming that Nigerians are eligible to apply for the Czech Government Scholarship programme for the 2027/2028 academic year.

The embassy said Nigeria is not among the countries eligible for the Czech Government Scholarship for the 2027/2028 academic year, urging students to disregard information published on unofficial websites and other platforms that lists Nigeria as an eligible country.

The clarification followed the circulation of scholarship information online suggesting that Nigerian applicants could apply for the programme.

In a statement issued on Monday, the embassy said the information was inaccurate and advised prospective applicants to rely only on official sources for information about Czech government scholarships.

“We have seen some information circulating online about Czech Government Scholarships for the 2027/2028 academic year, including information stating that applicants from Nigeria are eligible. Please note that this information is NOT accurate,” the embassy said.

The embassy acknowledged the strong interest among Nigerian students in pursuing higher education in the Czech Republic but said the government scholarship would not be available to applicants from Nigeria for the 2027/2028 academic year.

The warning is particularly important because the Czech Government Scholarship programme for 2027/2028 is a genuine programme, with applications for eligible foreign nationals scheduled to close on September 30, 2026. However, eligibility depends on the applicant’s nationality and the countries designated under the relevant scholarship call.

The embassy advised Nigerian students seeking verified information about study opportunities in the Czech Republic to consult the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Dům zahraniční spolupráce, the Czech agency responsible for international education and research cooperation.

The latest clarification also distinguishes the 2027/2028 scholarship cycle from the previous academic year. In August 2025, the Czech government announced two development scholarships specifically for Nigerian students for the 2026/2027 academic year, covering eligible master’s and doctoral studies.

The embassy’s latest statement therefore does not mean Nigerian students are permanently barred from Czech government scholarships. Rather, it confirms that Nigeria is excluded from the eligible-country list for the 2027/2028 cycle.

The embassy urged prospective applicants to exercise caution and avoid relying on unofficial scholarship websites that could lead students to submit applications or make payments based on incorrect eligibility information.

It thanked Nigerian students for their understanding and wished them success in pursuing legitimate educational opportunities.
