Davido declared unwelcome in Edo after row with Okpebholo’s aide

Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been declared unwelcome to perform in Edo State following his recent public clash with Governor Monday Okpebholo over the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

The warning was issued by Apostle Kassy Chukwu, the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media, who said Davido had been banned from performing in Edo for the remainder of Okpebholo’s administration.

The dispute reportedly began during the build-up to the Osun governorship election after Okpebholo criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is Davido’s uncle, over his political activities.

Davido subsequently responded on Instagram by sharing what appeared to be Okpebholo’s West African Examinations Council result.

When questioned about the post, the singer reportedly refused to apologise, arguing that the Edo governor had no business interfering in the affairs of another state while criticising his uncle.

Reacting to the development, Chukwu accused Davido of disrespecting Governor Okpebholo and his family, warning that the singer should not expect to return to Edo State for performances.

The governor’s aide also claimed that some Edo youths were unhappy with Davido and would not welcome him back to the state.

Davido has remained actively involved in the Osun election campaign, openly supporting his uncle and engaging political figures on social media.
