ASP Usman and members of his police team have been remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre in Delta State over the death of a 28-year-old suspect, Mene Ogidi, following a police operation in the Effurun area of the state.

The incident, according to court and police documents, occurred during an operation in which the officers were accused of unlawful use of firearms, allegedly resulting in the fatal shooting of the suspect.

Authorities said the case prompted an internal investigation by the Nigeria Police Force, which reviewed the conduct of the officers involved. Following disciplinary proceedings, the officers were reportedly dismissed from service before being formally charged to court for prosecution.

The court also directed that the case file be transferred to the appropriate prosecuting authorities for continuation of trial.

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed that the disciplinary action followed findings of misconduct and breaches of operational procedures, adding that the officers would be prosecuted in line with existing laws.

Officials reiterated the Force’s commitment to accountability and internal discipline, stressing that violations by personnel would not be condoned regardless of rank or position.
