Etinosa Idemudia criticises fake celebrity tributes

Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia has condemned the growing trend of celebrities sharing unreplied direct messages and emotional tributes after a person’s death.

Speaking during an appearance on the BTC Podcast, the actress criticised colleagues who ignore people while they are alive but suddenly post emotional messages once they pass away.

According to Etinosa, some producers and actors refuse collaboration opportunities or fail to respond to messages, only to later publicise private conversations after the individual’s death.

“All those people that post people’s DM when they are dead, if you post my DM, I’ll wake up, slap you and go back to the grave,” she said.

The actress also mocked the habit of posting conversations that were never replied to while the person was alive.

“DM that you didn’t reply… If you try it and post that ‘Oh, we should have worked together, I was looking forward to working with you,’ what I will do to you in your dream, you wouldn’t believe it,” she added.

Her comments come amid widespread online reactions following reports surrounding the death of Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo, which prompted several celebrities and friends to share screenshots of their last conversations and tributes on social media.

Etinosa’s remarks have since sparked debate online, with some agreeing that public tributes can sometimes appear performative, while others argued that sharing memories and messages may simply be a way of mourning publicly.
