Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has restated his allegation that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is allegedly plotting to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, despite repeated denials from both the Oyo State Government and the palace.

In a statement posted on his official X handle on Tuesday, Fayose insisted that unfolding political events would eventually vindicate his claims, maintaining that recent developments were consistent with what he had earlier warned about.

He alleged that criticisms and accusations recently levelled against the Olubadan were part of a broader political strategy aimed at laying the groundwork for the monarch’s possible removal.

“Those who are still in doubt, Governor Seyi Makinde’s plot to remove the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rahidi Adewolu Ladoja, should just keep their fingers crossed and follow unfolding events,” Fayose said, suggesting that ongoing controversies surrounding the traditional ruler were not coincidental.

He further argued that earlier denials of any rift between the governor and the monarch had now been contradicted by fresh allegations being circulated against the Olubadan.

“They denied any rift between Olubadan and Makinde after my making same public. But now, they are accusing the Olubadan of plotting to impeach Governor Makinde,” he added, claiming that such narratives were being orchestrated to justify future political actions against the traditional ruler.

The former governor’s remarks come amid rising political tension in Oyo State, where speculation about alleged impeachment plots and intra-government disagreements has continued to generate debate.

However, a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, the Chief Whip representing Atiba State Constituency, Gbenga Oyekola, has publicly distanced himself from reports linking lawmakers to any attempt to remove the governor.

In a statement shared via his verified Facebook page, Oyekola dismissed the claims, stressing that he was neither involved nor consulted on any such political arrangement.

“I hereby completely disassociate myself from any arrangement or activity that has the potential to disrupt the peace of Oyo State. I was never invited, never consulted, and was not part of any such meetings or arrangements,” he said.

He reaffirmed his loyalty to the governor and emphasised his commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the state.

“I cannot and will not be disloyal to my boss… I remain firmly committed to the peace, unity, and continued progress of Oyo State,” he added.

Fayose’s renewed allegations follow earlier claims in which he accused the Oyo State Government of plotting to depose the Olubadan—claims that were promptly rejected by both the government and the palace.

Responding earlier to such allegations, a media aide to the Olubadan had dismissed any suggestion of conflict between the monarch and the governor, stating that no known friction existed and describing the reports as likely rumours.

Similarly, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, strongly refuted the allegations, insisting that the administration had no intention of interfering in traditional or succession matters.

He maintained that the government had “never contemplated, discussed, or planned such an action,” describing the claims as politically motivated propaganda.

According to him, “By now, Nigerians know who and what to believe, especially when the information comes from a particular quarter. Oyo State Government has never contemplated, discussed, or planned such an action.”

He further described the allegations as baseless and politically driven, adding that governance decisions must be guided by credible motives and not “desperate propaganda.”

The latest exchange underscores growing political sensitivity in Oyo State, as competing narratives continue to circulate around traditional institutions and the state’s political leadership.
