The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has cautioned political actors in Oyo State to desist from involving him in partisan matters, stressing that he is not a politician and should not be associated with political manoeuvrings.

This clarification came hours after rumours circulated alleging that the monarch and some political figures in the state were plotting to impeach the Governor of Oyo State.

The claims sparked reactions across political and traditional circles before being firmly dismissed by the palace.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by his Media Aide, Adeola Oloko, the palace described the allegations as entirely baseless and misleading.

The statement stressed that the Olubadan has no constitutional or legal authority to participate in the impeachment of any elected official, including a state governor.

It further explained that traditional rulers are not involved in legislative or executive processes that could lead to the removal of political office holders, adding that even at the local government level, monarchs have no such powers.

According to the statement, attempts to associate Olubadan with the alleged political plot were not only false but also a deliberate effort to drag the revered stool into “dirty politics.”

Oba Ladoja urged the public and political stakeholders to respect the sanctity of the traditional institution and avoid misrepresenting its role in governance.

“You don’t have to be a former Governor or distinguished Senator to know that a monarch has no power to impeach a Local Government Chairman, not to talk of a State Governor,” the statement added.

Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja reaffirmed that the traditional institution remains apolitical and committed solely to peace, cultural preservation, and unity within Ibadanland and beyond.
