Former Edo PDP chairman, Dan Orbih, dies at 80

Former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State and one-time National Vice Chairman of the party in the South-South, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, has died.

Orbih reportedly died on Monday, August 31, 2026, after a period of illness. He was 80.

The death of the veteran politician was announced by a member of his family, Francis Udukhomoi Orbih, according to Lere Olayinka, Chief Press Secretary to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Olayinka shared the family announcement on his Facebook page under the title, “In Loving Memory.”

The statement said the family of Chief M.C.K. Orbih announced the death of their beloved brother, husband, father and uncle.

“With profound sadness and a heavy heart but in total submission to the will of the Almighty God, the family of Chief M.C.K. Orbih announced the passing of our beloved brother, husband, father and uncle, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, who passed away on Monday, 31 August 2026,” the statement read.

Orbih was a prominent figure in Edo State politics and played a significant role in the affairs of the PDP at both the state and national levels.

He served as chairman of the Edo State chapter of the PDP before rising to become the party’s National Vice Chairman, South-South, where he was involved in political mobilisation and party administration across the region.

His death is expected to trigger tributes from political associates, party leaders and other stakeholders who worked with him during his years in active politics.

Further details concerning his burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
