Group says Tinubu’s campaign DG’s strategy, model for issue-based politics

A group under the aegis of ​Prominent good governance advocacy organization, Democracy Today, has commended the campaign strategy of Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.

​In a statement signed by the group’s Director of Public Engagement, Zander Imaseun, Democracy Today praised Senator Yari’s leadership approach, highlighting his maturity, steady focus, and purposeful direction as vital assets to the ruling party’s political operations.

​According to Imaseun, Yari has maintained an exemplary balance since taking on the role, choosing structured organization over political theatricality.

The group noted that rather than creating multiple confusing authority layers or heating up the national polity, Yari has operated as an “administrator par excellence” who keeps the campaign apparatus organized and laser-focused on its goals.

​”He has not been seen anywhere throwing his weight about. As an administrator par excellence, Yari is revving up the engine of the campaigns without constituting himself into a behemoth,” Imaseun stated.

According to him: “By so doing, he is ensuring that the campaign structure remains coherent. There is no shooting from pillar to post. There is no confusion arising from multiple and confusing layers of authority. He is ensuring that everybody plays in the field where he is assigned to.”

​The group further pointed out that Yari’s calm and decent disposition has fostered a temperate political atmosphere, steering the APC Presidential Campaign Council away from unnecessary friction with opposition political parties.

Democracy Today asserted that President Bola Tinubu made an apt choice in selecting Yari to lead the re-election drive, describing him as a “round peg in a round hole.”

​Emphasizing the need for decorum in political campaigns, the advocacy group urged other campaign officers across all political parties to emulate Yari’s style by shunning loud and aggressive rhetoric in favor of substance and genuine public engagement.

​”What works in any campaign is competence, sagacity, sincerity of purpose and, above all, the recognition of the fact that the people are the ultimate target of any campaign,” the statement added, emphasizing that campaign messages must remain people-centered rather than abstract.

​Reflecting on his track record, Democracy Today pointed to Yari’s previous tenure as Governor of Zamfara State and his current work in the Senate as evidence of his commitment to public welfare.

The organization particularly praised his scholarship program for underprivileged indigenes, describing it as a rare legislative initiative, while reiterating its call for politicians across the board to adopt a similar citizens-first strategy.
