IGP Disu visits Oyo, orders massive manhunt for abductors of school children

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has visited Oyo State following the deadly attack and abduction incident that occurred in Oriire Local Government Area in the early hours of Friday, May 15, 2026.

During the visit, the police chief expressed deep concern over the incident, describing it as “cruel and unacceptable,” while extending condolences to families of victims who lost their lives in the attack.

The visit comes amid intensified search-and-rescue operations launched by the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to secure the release of abducted victims and track down the perpetrators.

The IGP met with the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, alongside senior security stakeholders, where he received detailed operational updates on ongoing deployments across affected communities.

He was also accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Ojo Adekimi, as well as the Commissioner of Police, Schools Protection Squad, Abayomi Shogunle, in view of the strategic proximity of the Oriire axis to border communities linking Oyo and Kwara States.

Security officials briefed the IGP on coordinated tactical movements, intelligence-led operations, and ongoing efforts to comb nearby forests suspected to be hideouts for the attackers.

The Inspector-General assured residents, parents, and guardians that the police, working with other security agencies, had escalated both intelligence gathering and field operations to ensure the safe rescue of abducted victims.

He reiterated that no resources would be spared in restoring calm to the affected communities and bringing those responsible for the attack to justice.

According to him, additional tactical and intelligence units have been deployed to reinforce ongoing operations, particularly in remote and forested areas believed to be linked to the incident.

Authorities say the deployment is part of a broader strategy to strengthen security presence in vulnerable rural corridors and prevent further attacks in border communities between Oyo and neighbouring states.

Security operations in the area are expected to continue in the coming days as pressure mounts on security agencies to secure the release of the abducted victims and restore normalcy.
