‘I’ve never seen a president with better plans than Tinubu’ — Masari

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Masari, has said that in nearly four decades of active participation in Nigerian politics, he has never seen a president with better plans for the country than President Bola Tinubu.

Masari made the remark in a video published on Tuesday by HM Arewa, a Hausa-language media platform. The former Katsina governor was addressing a group of women at a recent public function reportedly held in Kaduna.

“Even if I were asked to swear, at my age and my political involvement for almost 40 years, I can confidently say I have never seen a president with better plans to make Nigeria great than Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Masari said.

He dismissed claims that the Tinubu administration had achieved little, arguing that similar criticisms had been directed at previous governments.

According to him, critics accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration of sectionalism and tribalism after his first term, while the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan also faced similar criticisms.

Masari said the same pattern was now being repeated against Tinubu as the country approached the 2027 general election.

“The people who claim that Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done nothing are the kind of people who never appreciate when someone is doing well,” he said.

The former governor also criticised the use of religious and ethnic sentiments in political discourse, questioning attempts to associate particular religions exclusively with specific ethnic groups.

He urged women preachers to use their influence within their families and communities to discourage what he described as divisive rhetoric ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Each and every one of you knows how to talk to her husband or children better than anyone else can,” Masari told the women.

Masari served as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007 during Obasanjo’s second term as president. He subsequently served as governor of Katsina State from 2015 to 2023.

He was appointed in August as Deputy Director-General, Parliamentary Mobilisation, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

His comments come as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for February 20, 2027, while governorship and state assembly elections are scheduled for March 6, 2027.

Tinubu is seeking another term, while opposition figures, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, are also positioning themselves for the presidential contest.
