Lagos Firefighters extinguish 33,000-litre tanker fire at Otedola Bridge (VIDEO)
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has extinguished a fire involving a 33,000-litre tanker at Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred at about 4 p.m. on October 19, 2026, towards the Berger axis of Lagos, after the tanker reportedly fell and caught fire, raising concerns about road safety and traffic movement along the busy expressway.
According to the fire service, firefighters from its Alausa and Ikeja stations were mobilised following a distress call received at 4:09 p.m.
The emergency response team arrived at the scene at 4:16 p.m. and immediately commenced firefighting operations to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading.

Their intervention brought the fire under control, while damping-down operations continued to extinguish remaining hotspots and prevent a possible re-ignition.
The tanker was reportedly conveying petroleum products from a depot when the incident occurred. However, the exact quantity of fuel onboard at the time of the fire has not been independently confirmed.
Earlier reports from the scene indicated that flames engulfed the tanker beneath the bridge, prompting calls for motorists and commuters to avoid the affected section and consider alternative routes while emergency operations were underway.
The incident also renewed concerns about the risks posed by tanker accidents on major highways, particularly along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a critical transport corridor linking Lagos with other parts of the country.
The fire service said further information regarding the cause of the incident, possible casualties and the extent of property damage would be made available after verification.
Road users have been advised to exercise caution around the affected area and comply with instructions from relevant authorities as emergency response activities continue.
