Many feared dead as Nigerian Air Force aircraft crashes in Ondo

Many people are feared dead following an aircraft accident in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State on Monday, October 5, 2026, with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) activating a Search and Rescue operation at the crash site.

The aircraft was initially believed to be a passenger helicopter. However, impeccable sources close to Defence Headquarters have confirmed that the aircraft belongs to the Nigerian Air Force.

The aircraft was reportedly on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos when the accident occurred.

In a statement, the NAF said it had commenced an immediate Search and Rescue operation following the incident.

“Rescue operations, in coordination with relevant authorities and emergency response agencies, is currently ongoing,” the Air Force said.

The NAF added that it is “deeply concerned about the safety and well-being of her personnel” and remains committed to the success of the ongoing Search and Rescue efforts.

The exact number of personnel aboard the aircraft, as well as the number of casualties, remains unclear as of the time of filing this report. However, multiple sources familiar with the incident said there are fears that several people may have lost their lives.

Emergency responders and relevant authorities are currently engaged in rescue operations in the area as efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.

The Nigerian Air Force has yet to officially release details of the casualties or the identities of those aboard the aircraft.
