Michael Carrick confirmed As Manchester United new manager
Manchester United have officially confirmed the appointment of Michael Carrick as the club’s permanent head coach, bringing an end to months of speculation surrounding the managerial position at Old Trafford.
The 44-year-old former United midfielder, who had been serving in an interim capacity since January, has signed a multi-year contract reportedly spanning two years, with an option to extend for an additional 12 months.
Carrick assumed control of the team following the departure of Ruben Amorim earlier this year and has since overseen a marked improvement in performances and results.
Under his guidance, United have recorded 10 victories in their last 15 matches across all competitions, climbed to third place in the Premier League standings, and secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

The club’s chief executive, Omar Berrada, alongside director of football Jason Wilcox, reportedly recommended Carrick for the permanent role after being impressed with the team’s resurgence. Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is said to have approved the appointment following discussions earlier this week.
Carrick is no stranger to success at Manchester United. During his distinguished playing career at the club, he made 463 appearances and lifted several major honours, including the UEFA Champions League and multiple Premier League titles. He played under legendary former manager Alex Ferguson before retiring in 2018.
After hanging up his boots, Carrick transitioned into coaching, including a stint as head coach of Middlesbrough, before returning to United’s technical staff. His familiarity with the club’s culture and expectations is believed to have strengthened his candidacy.
Senior members of the squad, including club captain Bruno Fernandes, are understood to have supported the decision to hand Carrick the role permanently.
His backroom team is also expected to remain intact, with assistants such as Jonathan Woodgate continuing in their positions.
The appointment represents another chapter in United’s ongoing search for long-term stability since Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, a period marked by frequent managerial changes.
Speaking after his confirmation, Carrick expressed pride and determination.
“This club means everything to me. We have momentum now, and I can’t wait to build on it with the players and staff,” he said.
United will next face Nottingham Forest on Sunday as preparations continue for the new season, with optimism growing among supporters that Carrick’s tenure could usher in a new era of sustained success at Old Trafford.
