A woman from Plateau State, identified as Lisa Stephens, has given a deeply distressing account of a violent attack on her family, featured in a new documentary by Channel 4.

The film, titled “Investigating a Village of Widows in Nigeria Amid Fears of a ‘Christian Genocide’,” explores the toll of recurring violence on vulnerable communities, particularly in rural areas where security concerns remain acute.

In her testimony, Stephens described the night armed assailants allegedly stormed her home after breaking down the door. She said she was jolted awake by the sound of gunfire and chaos. In a desperate attempt to respond, she tried to rouse her husband, who remained unresponsive amid the unfolding attack. At the time, she was also caring for her infant, who was breastfeeding.

The documentary situates Stephens’ experience within a broader pattern of insecurity affecting parts of Nigeria, where families have faced repeated incidents of violence, displacement, and loss. It also highlights the long-term psychological and social consequences for survivors, particularly women who are often left to rebuild their lives in the aftermath.

While authorities have continued to address security challenges in the region, accounts like Stephens’ underscore ongoing concerns about the protection of civilians and the need for sustained intervention.
