Nollywood actress Tope Osoba dies after breast cancer battle

Nollywood actress Tope Osoba has died after a prolonged battle with breast cancer. She was 40.

The actress reportedly passed away on Wednesday, with fellow actress Foluke Daramola announcing the news on her Instagram page.

Osoba had publicly disclosed her health challenges in 2024 when she appealed for financial assistance after undergoing her first breast cancer surgery.

At the time, Daramola revealed that the actress required a second operation to remove the remaining cancerous tissue, with the procedure estimated to cost about ₦12 million.

She also shared videos of Osoba undergoing medical examinations and disclosed that the actress had sought support from the President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Bolaji Amusan.

Speaking about her diagnosis, Osoba recalled discovering a lump in her breast during a routine self-examination. She said the lump was initially dismissed by a doctor as a condition related to childbearing but insisted on further medical tests, which later confirmed it was cancerous.

Her death has triggered an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, fans and members of the Nigerian entertainment industry, who have remembered her resilience, courage and contributions to Nollywood throughout her career.
