Suspected armed men on Wednesday night launched another attempted attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State, but were repelled by security personnel after a gun battle that left one attacker dead.

The incident occurred at about 11 p.m. when the assailants attempted to force their way into the institute.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Institute’s Head of Public Affairs, Dr. Osime Samuel, said security operatives responded swiftly, preventing the attackers from breaching the facility.

He said one of the gunmen was neutralised during the exchange of gunfire, while several others escaped with injuries.

The institute confirmed that all participants of the Senior Executive Course, staff, residents and facilities remained safe and unharmed.

NIPSS said security agencies had intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and strengthened surveillance around the institution.
