Onuachu brace seals Trabzonspor’s 10th Turkish Cup 

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu produced a decisive two-goal performance on Friday night as Trabzonspor defeated Konyaspor 2–1 to clinch their 10th Turkish Cup title.

The Nigerian forward ended a recent goal drought in style, scoring in both halves to secure a hard-fought victory in a tense final.

Trabzonspor, chasing their first Turkish Cup since the 2019/20 season, took the lead in the 18th minute through Onuachu. A well-delivered cross from right-back Wagner Pina found the striker in the box, where he rose above the defence to power a header past goalkeeper Bahadır Güngördü.

The early breakthrough gave Trabzonspor control of the match, as they went into halftime leading 1–0 with a disciplined defensive display that included a full 90-minute shift from Nigerian defender Chibuike Nwaiwu.

Konyaspor responded strongly in the second half and restored parity just five minutes after the restart. In the 50th minute, Jackson Muleka finished from close range after finding space inside the penalty area.

The momentum briefly swung in Konyaspor’s favour, but they failed to capitalise on a major opportunity in the 58th minute when they were awarded a penalty. The effort struck the woodwork, keeping the score level at 1–1.

With the match finely balanced, Onuachu once again stepped up in the 78th minute after Trabzonspor were awarded a penalty. The striker calmly delayed his run-up before sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to slot home what proved to be the winning goal.

The strike sealed a 2–1 victory and sparked jubilant celebrations as Trabzonspor secured a landmark 10th Turkish Cup triumph.

The brace marks an important return to form for Onuachu, who had gone five league games without a goal prior to the final. His timely resurgence will be welcomed by both club supporters and Nigeria’s national team setup ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
