Oyeyemi, Ugboma to lead discourse on multi-modal transport safety at 12th NTL
The National President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transportation (CILT), Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, and the Dean of the School of Transportation and Logistics at Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Ogochukwu Ugboma, are set to headline the 12th edition of the Nigeria Transport Lecture (NTL) scheduled for Thursday, June 18, 2026, in Lagos.
The annual event, organised by Transport Day Media, will focus on the theme: “Multi-modal Transportation Safety in Nigeria: Prospects, Challenges & Contribution to National Growth.”
The lecture will be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, and is expected to draw top policymakers, regulators, academics, and private sector operators across the transport and logistics value chain.
Focus on Safety in Multi-Modal Transport
According to the organisers, this year’s theme reflects growing concerns over safety standards amid Nigeria’s push to integrate road, rail, maritime, and air transport systems into a seamless multi-modal framework.
Dr. Oyeyemi, a former Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), is expected to provide insights from a regulatory and enforcement perspective, while Prof. Ugboma will examine policy, research, and academic dimensions of transportation safety and logistics management.
Stakeholders say strengthening safety protocols across transport modes is critical to sustaining infrastructure investments and improving economic productivity.
Platform for Policy Dialogue
Over the years, the Nigeria Transport Lecture has evolved into a respected platform for industry dialogue and policy advocacy.
Previous editions have featured notable figures including former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dakuku Peterside; former Federal Permanent Secretary, Dr. Anthonia Ekpa; and the current Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr. Kayode Opeifa.
Speaking ahead of the event, Editor of Transport Day Media, Mr. Frank Kintum, said the annual lecture continues to serve as a strategic intervention aimed at addressing contemporary challenges within the transport and logistics ecosystem.
“Every year, we use the lecture as a platform to discuss contemporary issues in the industry. This year, we settled for multi-modal transportation safety because without safety, the various multi-modal transport initiatives by governments at different levels may be undermined,” Kintum said.
Driving Sustainable Transport Development
He added that the lecture represents Transport Day Media’s contribution to advancing a sustainable, efficient, and globally competitive transport and logistics industry in Nigeria and across Africa.
Industry observers note that with ongoing investments in rail modernisation, port expansion, airport upgrades, and highway rehabilitation, coordinated safety frameworks across all modes of transportation have become more urgent than ever.
The 12th Nigeria Transport Lecture is expected to produce actionable recommendations aimed at strengthening regulatory compliance, enhancing stakeholder collaboration, and improving operational standards within Nigeria’s evolving multi-modal transport landscape.
