Peller unites APM candidates, leaders in Oyo North ahead of 2027 elections

Former federal lawmaker and Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) senatorial flagbearer for Oyo North, Hon. Shina Peller, has intensified preparations for the 2027 general elections with a strategic retreat involving party candidates and executives across the senatorial district.

The high-level meeting, held in Iseyin, brought together House of Representatives candidates, State House of Assembly contenders, local government chairmen, youth and women leaders and other party strategists from the 13 local government areas covering the Oke-Ogun and Ogbomoso zones.

The retreat focused on strengthening the party’s grassroots structure, harmonising campaign strategies and establishing a coordinated approach for the 2027 electoral contest.

Addressing participants, Peller, the Ayedero of Yorubaland, described the 2027 election as an opportunity for Oyo North to secure effective, accountable and development-oriented representation at the National Assembly.

He urged candidates and party leaders to move beyond conventional campaign methods and adopt a voter-focused strategy that responds directly to the needs and aspirations of communities across the district.

Peller said the objective was to build a political movement anchored on development and inclusive governance rather than merely pursue electoral victories.

“What we are building across Oyo North is not merely an electoral platform; it is a popular movement for genuine development and inclusive governance,” he said.

He stressed the importance of unity among APM candidates, saying coordinated efforts between senatorial, federal and state candidates would strengthen the party’s grassroots mobilisation.

“Our strength lies in our collective structure, our shared vision and our unwavering commitment to the grassroots,” Peller added.

The former member of the House of Representatives, who represented the Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency from 2019 to 2023, also pledged to deploy his legislative experience and national network toward addressing challenges confronting Oyo North.

He identified agricultural modernisation, youth empowerment and infrastructure development as key areas requiring stronger legislative advocacy.

According to him, Oke-Ogun and Ogbomoso remain strategically important to Oyo State, particularly because of their agricultural potential, but the region requires more proactive representation at the federal level.

Party executives at the meeting commended Peller’s organisational approach and pledged to strengthen the APM structure across wards and polling units.

The meeting comes amid growing political interest in the Oyo North senatorial contest, following reports that incumbent Senator Abdulfatai Buhari is not seeking another senatorial term as he pursues executive ambitions.

The APM subsequently adopted a strategic blueprint centred on voter engagement, youth and women mobilisation, polling-unit protection and sustained consultations with traditional and community leaders.

The development signals an early attempt by the APM to consolidate its political structure in Oyo North and position the party for a competitive campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.
