Peter Okoye calls out Rudeboy over public shade amid language controversy

The long-running rift between former P-Square members Peter Okoye and his twin brother, Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, has taken another dramatic turn after Peter accused his brother of using a recent social media controversy to damage his reputation.

The latest dispute stems from backlash Peter received after questioning the value of Nigerian indigenous languages during an exchange with fans on social media. His remarks attracted widespread criticism, prompting the singer to issue a public apology and clarify that he never intended to disrespect Nigerian languages or culture.

In his apology, Peter explained that the controversy began after he shared that his children could speak French fluently, leading him to joke about buying a home in Paris. When a social media user asked whether his children also spoke Igbo, Peter replied, “Who Naija language help?”—a comment many interpreted as dismissive of indigenous languages. He later admitted his words were poorly expressed and apologised to those offended.

However, Peter reserved his strongest criticism for Rudeboy, accusing his twin brother of taking advantage of the backlash instead of supporting him. He alleged that Paul has repeatedly used public controversies to portray him negatively and turn fans against him.

“You’re at it again, using this moment as another opportunity to pull me down,” Peter wrote, adding that attempts to damage his image would not succeed.

Peter also claimed that this was not the first time Rudeboy had publicly thrown subtle jabs at him, recalling previous comments he described as attempts to ridicule him, including remarks about his dancing and age. He suggested that he would no longer ignore such actions, declaring that he was prepared to respond with the same energy going forward.

The exchange came after Rudeboy posted a message celebrating his Nigerian and Igbo identity, stating that he was “nobody without the culture, native language and pride of a Nigerian.” Although Paul did not mention Peter by name, many fans interpreted the post as a veiled response to the language controversy.

The latest disagreement has reignited conversations about the strained relationship between the twin brothers, whose music partnership ended several years ago amid family and business disputes. Since the breakup of P-Square, both artists have occasionally traded public remarks, keeping hopes of a lasting reconciliation uncertain.

As of the time of reporting, Rudeboy had not publicly responded to Peter’s latest allegations.
