Police arrest two suspects, recover pistols, ammunition and suspected cocaine in Delta Highway operation

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two men and recovered firearms, live ammunition and suspected cocaine during a stop-and-search operation along the Agbarho–Warri Road.

The operation was carried out on Saturday, July 25, 2026, by officers attached to the command’s Safer Highway Patrol unit as part of efforts to disrupt criminal activities along major routes in the state.

According to the police, the officers intercepted a grey Mercedes-Benz ML SUV with registration number AAA 604 JZ during a routine patrol.

The occupants of the vehicle were identified as Omini Ezeri, 46, from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and Chinedum Wagbara, 42, also from Port Harcourt.

Police said a third occupant of the vehicle, identified as God Knows Ifreke, escaped during preliminary questioning by fleeing into a nearby swamp. Authorities said efforts are ongoing to track and arrest him.

Items recovered from the vehicle included two locally fabricated Beretta pistols, nine rounds of live ammunition, and about 200 grams of a substance suspected to be cocaine.

Other items recovered were a walkie-talkie, a dagger, a grinder, and two mobile phones believed to be useful for ongoing investigations.

Confirming the development, Delta State Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said the arrest demonstrated the command’s continued efforts to combat criminal networks and prevent the movement of illegal weapons and narcotics across the state.

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the patrol team for what he described as vigilance and professionalism during the operation.

He assured residents that the command would continue to intensify efforts to prevent Delta State from becoming a safe haven for criminals involved in arms trafficking and drug-related activities.

The two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to determine the origin of the recovered weapons and suspected narcotics, as well as identify other individuals connected to the operation.
