Police rescue pregnant 12-year-old girl from rape at Abuja taxi park
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man identified as Zayyanu Halilu after he was allegedly caught sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl inside a vehicle around the Airport Bridge Taxi Park in Abuja.
The victim was subsequently found to be about three months pregnant following a medical examination, according to the police.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday.
Adeh said officers of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit were on routine patrol in the area on October 2 when they noticed a fully tinted navy-blue Volkswagen vehicle with registration number KMC567LQ parked at the location with its windows wound up.

According to the police spokesperson, the officers became suspicious after observing that the vehicle was shaking.
She said the officers approached the vehicle and opened it, where they allegedly found Halilu sexually assaulting the minor.
“Following the discovery, the suspect was promptly arrested and the victim was rescued,” Adeh said.
The PPRO said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect had allegedly lured and sexually abused the girl on several occasions inside the same vehicle at the location.
She added that the suspect allegedly threatened to “deal with her” if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.
“Medical examination also revealed that the victim is about three months pregnant as a result of the abuse,” Adeh said.
The police said the victim is currently receiving medical care and undergoing further assessment.
Meanwhile, Halilu remains in police custody as investigators continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the alleged abuse.
Adeh said the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation
