Tension in Edo APC as Members oppose rally for favoured aspirant

Concerned members of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State have strongly condemned a directive allegedly issued by the state secretary, Lawrence Okah, calling for mass mobilisation of party members across all local government areas for a planned solidarity rally in support of a specific aspirant.
The directive, dated May 16, 2026 and circulated through internal party communication channels, reportedly assigned mobilisation quotas to each local government area ahead of the rally scheduled for Sunday, May 17, 2026, at 12 noon.
According to the protesting stakeholders, the instruction represents a serious breach of internal party neutrality and constitutes an abuse of office, particularly at a time when the party is preparing for internal primaries.
They argued that the office of the state secretary is expected to serve all members impartially rather than be deployed as a mobilisation instrument for any individual aspirant.
They further warned that such actions, if left unchecked, could undermine internal democracy within the party, erode confidence in the leadership structure, and create what they described as an uneven playing field among aspirants contesting for party positions.
In a statement signed by Chris Azebamwen, speaking on behalf of Edo South APC stakeholders, the group called on the state APC leadership as well as the National Working Committee to urgently intervene by halting the proposed rally and initiating disciplinary review processes over the alleged misuse of office.
“The APC must not be reduced to a platform for personal political projects,” the statement added, insisting that strict adherence to party guidelines and fairness must be maintained ahead of upcoming primaries
