Tinubu begins three-week working vacation, heads to London

President Bola Tinubu will begin a three-week leave on Sunday, August 30, with the president expected to travel to Europe as part of what the Presidency described as a “working vacation.”

Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this on Sunday, saying Tinubu would depart Abuja later in the day.

According to Onanuga, the president’s first destination will be London, United Kingdom, where he is expected to spend part of the vacation before proceeding to other European engagements.

“His first stop will be London, United Kingdom,” Onanuga said.

He added that Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria after the vacation to participate in preparations and campaign activities ahead of the January 2027 election.

The latest leave comes about a year after the president took a 10-day vacation in September 2025. That trip was also described by the Presidency as a working vacation, during which Tinubu visited the United Kingdom and France.

The president’s 2026 vacation follows the conclusion of Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s two-week leave.

Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the Vice-President on Media and Communications, had described Shettima’s August vacation as his first leave since assuming office in May 2023.

Shettima, however, returned to Nigeria on August 18, two days ahead of schedule.

Tinubu’s latest vacation comes as the administration continues to implement its economic and governance agenda, while political activities are also expected to intensify ahead of the 2027 general election.
