President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Ewuare II, on his 10th anniversary on the throne and 73rd birthday, commending his commitment to preserving the Benin Kingdom’s cultural heritage and traditions.

Tinubu conveyed the congratulatory message on October 20, 2026, on behalf of his wife and the Federal Government.

In the tribute, the President described the monarch as an embodiment of dignity, culture and historical consciousness whose influence reflects the heritage of the Benin people and Nigerians at large.

He said the milestone represented a decade of royal stewardship, service and dedication to safeguarding the traditions that define the Benin Kingdom.

“Your Majesty, this is no ordinary milestone. It is a celebration of ten years of royal stewardship, service, and an unwavering commitment to preserving the heritage and traditions that define the Benin people,” Tinubu said.

The President commended Oba Ewuare II for sustaining the dignity of the traditional institution and inspiring confidence through his leadership over the past decade.

Tinubu also expressed admiration for the monarch’s wisdom, courage, restraint and commitment to peace, describing him as a symbol of grace and integrity, a fountain of wisdom and a guardian of communal values.

He noted that the Oba had continued to serve as a rallying point for the aspirations of his people while upholding the cultural identity of the ancient kingdom.

The President particularly praised the monarch’s efforts to facilitate the repatriation of stolen Benin artefacts, as well as his role in preserving one of Africa’s most enduring traditional institutions.

Tinubu said the monarch’s interventions in the recovery of the kingdom’s cultural treasures underscored his dedication to protecting the historical legacy of the Benin people for future generations.

“As Your Majesty celebrates another year of life, may this birthday usher in renewed strength, greater wisdom, sound health, and an even deeper inspiration for the young to cherish their heritage,” the President added.

He also expressed hope that the monarch’s reign would record greater achievements in the cultural and social causes he had championed.

Oba Ewuare II, who ascended the throne of the Benin Kingdom in 2016, has remained a prominent voice in efforts to preserve Benin history, traditions and cultural artefacts.

Tinubu concluded his tribute with the traditional Benin royal salutation, “Oba gha t’o kpere. Ise!” as he wished the monarch continued success and a peaceful reign.
