Toyin Abraham rejects Lagos APC Campaign Council role

Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has distanced herself from the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council ahead of the 2027 general elections, asking the public to disregard reports that she has been appointed as a member.

Abraham’s clarification came only a few hours after her name appeared on a list of 33 entertainers reportedly included in the Lagos State APC Campaign Council for the 2027 election.

The list, released on Thursday, featured several prominent figures from Nigeria’s entertainment industry, including veteran actors Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello; Bukky Wright; Yinka Quadri; Fuji musicians Pasuma and Saheed Osupa; and entertainers Small Doctor and Malaika.

However, the inclusion of Abraham’s name generated reactions on social media, prompting the actress to publicly clarify her position.

In a statement posted on her Instagram Story, Abraham said she was not a member of any campaign council and reiterated her decision to remain outside partisan politics.

She urged members of the public to disregard any document or report suggesting that she had accepted a role in a political campaign organisation.

“I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently, I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee,” she stated.

The development has effectively separated the actress from the reported list of entertainers assembled by the Lagos APC campaign structure, at least based on her public declaration.

Abraham had previously indicated that she intended to stay away from partisan political activities, making her latest statement a reiteration of that position.

The controversy comes as political parties and their campaign structures begin preparations for the 2027 general elections, with entertainers and other public figures often featuring prominently in political mobilisation and campaign activities.

While the reported Lagos APC list included a number of well-known personalities from the film and music industries, Abraham’s statement makes clear that she does not consent to her inclusion in any campaign council and does not currently intend to participate in partisan political campaigning.
