Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has questioned Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) over a deduction of N18,912 from his account, which he said was charged as a service fee.

The 66-year-old actor raised the complaint in an Instagram post on Thursday, October 1, 2026, sharing what appeared to be a transaction receipt showing the deduction.

Solade expressed surprise at the amount and questioned why the bank would deduct almost N20,000 from his account under the description of a service charge.

According to the actor, he has maintained an account with the bank since 1995 and could not understand the basis for the deduction.

“GTB, today, on Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day, you deducted over N18,000 from my account in the name and disguise of a service charge, which I don’t understand,” Solade said.

He added, “N18,000, whole thousand! What did I buy from you? I’ve been with you since 1995. Almost N20,000, why?”

Describing the deduction as “theft and oppression,” the actor called on other customers who may have experienced similar deductions to speak out.

“If you are affected by this theft and oppression, let’s call GTB out,” he said.

In the accompanying caption, Solade described the incident as “what an independence robbery.”

The post attracted reactions from other celebrities, including actress Fathia Balogun, who suggested that similar concerns may exist across the banking sector.

“It’s all banks. It’s like they are gathering success through our money,” Balogun wrote in the comments.

GTBank had not publicly responded to Solade’s allegation as of the time of filing this report.

The actor’s complaint comes amid recurring public discussions among Nigerian bank customers over account charges, transaction fees and other deductions.

Solade recently also recounted an experience from his school days when he said he was paid to pretend to have a physical disability as part of a staged healing miracle in a church.
