Residents raise fresh concerns over insecurity after armed assailants reportedly stormed the official’s home; family awaits contact from abductors

A Supervisory Councillor for Special Duties in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Lamido Muhammad, has been abducted alongside his two sons in a midnight raid on his residence, raising fresh concerns about the safety of residents amid persistent kidnapping incidents in parts of the North-West.

The victims were identified as Muhammad, Aliyu Lamido and Amir Lamido. Their whereabouts remained unknown following the incident, as the suspected bandits reportedly took them to an undisclosed location.

A source familiar with the incident said the assailants invaded the councillor’s residence in Wucicciri, Abba area of Zaria, around midnight on Sunday before whisking the three family members away.

The circumstances surrounding the abduction, including the number of attackers, whether weapons were used and how they gained access to the residence, were not immediately established.

The source said the incident had heightened anxiety among residents, particularly as the abductors had reportedly not contacted the family to communicate their demands or request a ransom.

The absence of communication has left the family uncertain about the victims’ condition and the next steps that may be required to secure their release.

Family awaits contact as residents demand action

According to the source, the abduction has renewed concerns about the exposure of residents to attacks and the ability of security agencies to prevent armed groups from targeting communities.

The source called on the authorities to take decisive measures to protect lives, improve security surveillance and ensure the safe return of the abducted councillor and his children.

The source also questioned how long residents would continue to live under the threat of kidnapping, expressing concern about the psychological and financial burdens such incidents impose on affected families.

Beyond the immediate family, the abduction of a serving local government official and his two sons could further unsettle residents already worried about the activities of armed groups in parts of Kaduna State.

However, details of any security response to the incident were not immediately available, and it remained unclear whether a formal rescue operation had commenced.

Police response remains unconfirmed

Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, could not be reached for comment, as calls to his telephone went unanswered.

Consequently, the police had not confirmed the incident publicly in the information available for this report. It was also unclear whether the command had received a formal complaint, deployed operatives to the area or identified any suspects.

The identities of the alleged abductors and their motives have yet to be independently established.

The circumstances surrounding the incident therefore remain subject to official confirmation and further investigation.

Kaduna’s wider security challenge

The abduction comes amid continuing concerns over kidnapping and attacks attributed to armed groups in parts of Kaduna State and the wider North-West region.

Such incidents have placed pressure on residents, community leaders and security agencies, with families often facing uncertainty while waiting for information about abducted relatives.

Kidnappings can also have consequences beyond the immediate victims, including disruption to local economic activities, restrictions on movement and increased anxiety among residents who fear becoming targets.

In affected communities, the possibility of ransom demands can place additional financial pressure on families, while prolonged uncertainty can intensify the emotional toll on relatives.

For communities in and around Zaria, the reported abduction of Muhammad and his sons has raised renewed questions about the protection of residential areas and the measures available to prevent attacks.

Residents are likely to look to the relevant authorities for clarification on the incident, information about ongoing security efforts and assurances that steps are being taken to locate the victims.

As of the time of filing this report, no ransom demand had reportedly been communicated to the family, according to the source, while the victims’ whereabouts remained unknown.

The immediate priority is the safe return of Lamido Muhammad, Aliyu Lamido and Amir Lamido. Further details, including an official police account and any developments in efforts to secure their release, are still awaited.
