Nollywood actress and filmmaker Genevieve Nnaji has called for stronger collaboration among filmmakers across Africa, saying the continent’s film industry still has enormous untapped potential.

Speaking on the Deadline Podcast, the award-winning producer said she hopes to see more intercontinental productions involving creatives from different African countries.

According to Nnaji, cross-border partnerships would help strengthen African storytelling and further expand the industry’s global reach.

“I think my dream has always been that we have some intercontinental production within the African region. And I can’t wait to see that happen,” she said.

The actress also expressed excitement about the growing number of female filmmakers emerging in the Nigerian movie industry, describing the development as inspiring.

“Seeing a lot more female producers, directors, and filmmakers come up is also very inspiring to me. The industry is barely 40 years old, but we’ve achieved so much in such a short time,” she added.

Nnaji, who directed and produced Lionheart, the first Nigerian film acquired by Netflix, further highlighted the richness of African stories, noting that the continent’s film industry is only beginning to scratch the surface of its possibilities.

“I think we just started. Time is still very young, and we have a lot more to achieve,” she stated.
