A retired broadcaster with Ogun State Television (OGTV), Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard have been killed by suspected gunmen during an attack on her residence in the Agodo community of Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 21, has thrown the media community and residents of the area into mourning.

Mrs. Oyesiku, popularly known as “Aunty Kitan,” was a respected media practitioner and former Senior Programme Producer with OGTV before her retirement. She was 67 years old.

According to community sources, the attack was discovered on Sunday morning after residents noticed unusual activity around the compound. Concern reportedly grew when the retired broadcaster failed to attend her church service, prompting concerned members to visit her residence.

Upon arrival, they reportedly found signs of a violent attack and alerted security agencies.

Sources said the assailants gained access to the compound during the night and first attacked the security guard at his duty post before forcing their way into the main building, where Mrs. Oyesiku was killed.

The attackers were also said to have ransacked the residence and escaped with the deceased’s vehicle and mobile phone.

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the incident and announced the commencement of an investigation into the double murder.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said detectives from the Owode-Egba Division were immediately deployed to the scene following reports of the attack.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, had directed a comprehensive investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killings and bring those responsible to justice.

According to the police, surveillance and intelligence-gathering operations have been intensified across the area and adjoining routes in an effort to track down the fleeing suspects and recover the stolen vehicle.

The bodies of the victims have been evacuated to a morgue in Abeokuta for further examination, while forensic teams have begun processing evidence from the crime scene.

The tragic death of Mrs. Oyesiku has sparked an outpouring of grief among former colleagues, journalists, and residents who described her as a dedicated broadcaster and mentor who contributed immensely to the growth of television broadcasting in Ogun State.

Members of the media community have called for a thorough investigation into the incident, urging security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.

Meanwhile, the police have appealed to residents with useful information that could assist ongoing investigations to come forward, assuring the public that every effort is being made to apprehend those behind the attack.
