I will serve the Oyo empire well, I should be the next Alaafin of Oyo – Dr Kemi Olunloyo

Dr Kemi Olunloyo revealed that she’s interested in being the next Alaafin of Oyo and that Iku Baba Yeye will be proud of her. She says it is time for a new Alaafin and that she will serve the Oyo empire well.

She further revealed that the Oyo monarch is the only monarch in Yoruba land that has had a female king whose name was Orompotoniyun and she was the first female Alaafin. She says Orompoto was responsible for leading the Oyo Empire between the years 1555 to 1564 and she was the daughter of Alaafin Ofinran and the grand daughter of Alaafin Onigbogi who were also also rulers of the Oyo Empire during their own time.

If anything, Dr Kemi Olunloyo has shown that she has a good knowledge of her ancestral history. She knows that a woman has been an Alaafin in Oyo kingdom before and that makes it possible for her too. Maybe there are other conditions she will have to meet in order to become the Alaafin, but she believes she will serve her father land very well and they will be proud of her.
