A 34-year-old driver, Segun Falola, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre following his arraignment before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly abducting and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

Falola was brought before the court by the police on allegations of abduction and defilement, offences said to have occurred between April 3 and April 24 in the Alakuko area of Lagos.

The prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the defendant allegedly abducted the teenage victim while she was travelling from Alakuko to Agege.

According to the prosecution, Falola allegedly lured the girl into a house, where he sexually assaulted her before taking her away from Lagos.

The prosecutor further told the court that the defendant allegedly kept the girl in Oyo State.

The alleged abduction was uncovered after the victim’s phone was reportedly tracked to Oyo State, leading to the defendant’s arrest and the recovery of the girl.

Ademigbuji said the alleged offences contravened Sections 137 and 268 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

However, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs C.M. Kushanu did not take the defendant’s plea.

Rather, the court ordered that Falola be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The magistrate adjourned the matter until September 30, when the case is expected to come up for further proceedings.

The allegations against Falola have not been established by the court, and he remains entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in accordance with the law.
