Lagos NURTW organising secretary Toba Ajiboye dies after gunmen attack
The Organising Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos State Council, Comrade Toba Ajiboye, has died, just days after he was reportedly attacked by unidentified gunmen.
His death was confirmed by the Chairman of the NURTW Lagos State Council, Mustapha Adio Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, in a heartfelt tribute posted on his official Instagram page, where he described the late union official as a loyal friend, dependable ally and dedicated union leader.
Expressing his grief, Sego said the news of Ajiboye’s passing came as a devastating shock, noting that the deceased played a significant role in strengthening the Lagos State chapter of the union.
“The news of the sudden passing of Comrade Toba Ajiboye has left me deeply saddened and heartbroken. It is difficult to come to terms with the loss of such a loyal, dependable, and committed ally,” he wrote.

According to the NURTW chairman, Ajiboye was instrumental in advancing the activities of the union and remained a steadfast supporter of TeamSego and SegoNation throughout his service.
He praised the late organising secretary for his unwavering commitment, loyalty and selfless contributions, saying his impact on the union and those who worked with him would not be forgotten.
“My heartfelt condolences go to his family, friends, and the entire NURTW family. May Almighty God forgive his shortcomings, grant him eternal rest, and give us all the strength and fortitude to bear this painful and irreparable loss,” Sego stated.
He concluded his tribute with an emotional farewell, saying Ajiboye’s loyalty, friendship and support would remain in his heart forever.
Reports indicate that Ajiboye’s death occurred only days after he was allegedly attacked by unknown gunmen. However, the exact circumstances surrounding the attack and the cause of his death have not yet been officially disclosed by law enforcement authorities.
As of the time of filing this report, the police had not released a formal statement on the incident, while investigations are expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and the events leading to Ajiboye’s death.
The incident has sparked concern among members of the transport union and associates of the deceased, who have continued to mourn the loss of one of the council’s prominent officials.
