Lagos, Ogun Police rescue kidnap victims in joint operation along Ogere axis
The Lagos and Ogun State Police Commands have successfully rescued five persons who were abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Ogere axis of Ogun State in a coordinated security operation that underscores growing inter-state collaboration in the fight against violent crime.
The victims were freed during a joint operation carried out by operatives of both state police commands following intelligence-driven efforts to track down the kidnappers and secure the safe release of the abducted persons.
Although details of the rescue operation were not immediately disclosed, the police described the mission as a major success in the ongoing campaign against kidnapping and other violent crimes across the Lagos-Ogun corridor.
The Commissioners of Police for Lagos and Ogun States said the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence sharing and coordinated security strategies between neighbouring state commands in combating criminal activities that often cut across state boundaries.

They stressed that security agencies would continue to strengthen collaboration to ensure that criminal gangs operating within the South-West region are identified, apprehended and brought to justice.
According to the police chiefs, the successful rescue sends a clear message that kidnappers and other violent offenders will find no safe haven anywhere within the jurisdiction of the two commands.
They vowed to sustain joint offensives against criminal elements, noting that security operations would be intensified in identified flashpoints and border communities to prevent further incidents of kidnapping, armed robbery and related crimes.
The police also reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the lives and property of residents, assuring the public that intelligence-led operations would remain a key strategy in dismantling criminal networks operating across state borders.
The commands appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and security-conscious by promptly reporting suspicious individuals, unusual movements and any information that could assist law enforcement agencies in preventing crime.
They emphasised that timely and credible information from residents remains vital to intelligence gathering, crime prevention and the successful prosecution of criminal suspects.
The police further urged communities to continue partnering with security agencies, assuring that every piece of useful information would be treated with confidentiality and acted upon promptly.
The rescue operation comes amid intensified efforts by security agencies to curb the rising threat of kidnapping along major highways and border communities linking Lagos and Ogun states, areas that have witnessed occasional attacks by criminal gangs targeting travellers and residents.
Authorities said joint security operations across both states would continue as part of broader measures to improve public safety, strengthen law enforcement presence and deny criminal elements the opportunity to operate freely.
