All 69 students who were hospitalised following a suspected gas leak incident in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, have been discharged from the hospital, according to local authorities, while investigations into the cause of the incident continue.

The affected students were rushed to medical facilities after reportedly inhaling a suspected gas emission that caused distress at their school premises. Medical personnel confirmed that the students were stabilised and monitored before being cleared for discharge.

Officials say no fatalities were recorded, and all the affected students have fully recovered.

Authorities in Ogun State have since launched a formal investigation into the incident to determine the source of the suspected leak and prevent a recurrence. Safety inspectors are also expected to assess the facility where the incident occurred.

The development has raised renewed concerns about environmental and safety standards in school environments, with education stakeholders calling for stricter monitoring of infrastructure and emergency preparedness in public institutions.

Government officials have assured residents that findings from the investigation will be made public once completed, and that necessary corrective measures will be implemented.
