Three suspects have been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, over the alleged murder of former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, CSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, said the suspects were scheduled for arraignment at about 11:30 a.m.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, had earlier disclosed during a press briefing that investigators made a major breakthrough after recovering a handwritten note from Oyesiku’s stolen Lexus RX330 sport utility vehicle. According to him, forensic examination of the note provided crucial leads that enabled detectives to identify and track the prime suspect.
Police subsequently arrested 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip on June 24 at a construction site in the Ibara area of Abeokuta, where he had reportedly taken up work as a labourer in an apparent attempt to evade arrest.
Further investigations led detectives to two additional suspects identified as 27-year-old Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, a security guard, and 36-year-old Sobu Obafunsho, a bricklayer. Police allege that the trio acted together in carrying out the deadly attack.
According to investigators, Philip confessed during interrogation that he masterminded the operation out of resentment towards Oyesiku, whom he had previously worked for as a security guard. He allegedly told detectives that he wanted to “teach her a lesson” over what he described as a personal grievance.
Police said the suspects first overpowered the deceased security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, while he was on duty at the entrance to the residence before forcing their way into the compound. Both Adetayo and Oyesiku were allegedly killed during the attack.
Investigators who responded to the crime scene reportedly found evidence of forced entry and signs of a violent struggle. Adetayo’s body was discovered at the security post, while Oyesiku’s body was found inside the main building.
The police also recovered the victim’s stolen Lexus RX330 through technical tracking in the Onikolobo area of Abeokuta. During the investigation, detectives reportedly recovered several items believed to have been used in the attack, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank and a black pen, all of which have been retained as exhibits.
The Ogun State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring diligent prosecution of the case and bringing all those responsible for the killings to justice through the judicial process.
The case is expected to proceed in court as prosecutors present evidence against the three defendants in the ongoing trial.
