President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, removing the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, alongside the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The statement referenced an official memo signed by the SGF, George Akume.

According to the memo, Taiwo Oyedele has been appointed as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. In a related move, Muttaqha Darma has been named Minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development.

The outgoing ministers have been directed to conclude all handover processes to their successors on or before April 23, 2026, ensuring a smooth transition in both ministries.

Explaining the rationale behind the cabinet changes, Akume stated that the reshuffle is part of ongoing efforts to enhance coordination and improve performance in critical sectors of the economy under the administration’s policy framework.

“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Akume said.

He further noted that the President’s actions were carried out in accordance with Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empower the President to appoint and reassign ministers.

President Tinubu also expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service and contributions, wishing them success in their future endeavors.
