Veteran Yoruba actor Elegbeje Ado dies after brief illness
Veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor Taiwo Adeshina, popularly known as Elegbeje Ado, has died after a brief illness.
His death was announced by fellow actor Kunle Afod in a tribute shared on Instagram on Tuesday.

“We regret to announce the passing of one of the legends of the Yoruba Nollywood industry, Baba Elegbeje Ado.
“Your immense contribution to the growth of Yoruba cinema, your talent, and the joy you brought to countless lives will never be forgotten.
“Thank you for the beautiful memories and the legacy you left behind. May your soul rest in perfect peace.
“Our heartfelt condolences go to your family, friends, colleagues and fans during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Baba Elegbeje Ado. Your legacy lives on forever,” Afod wrote.
According to reports, Adeshina passed away on Monday after a brief illness, although the exact circumstances surrounding his death have not been officially disclosed.
A respected figure in the Yoruba film industry, Adeshina built a career spanning more than two decades, earning acclaim for portraying traditional rulers, community elders and other culturally significant characters.
His stage name, “Elegbeje Ado,” was inspired by one of his most memorable movie roles, which became closely associated with his career and endeared him to audiences.
Beyond acting, he was also a Christian minister, balancing his contributions to the film industry with pastoral work throughout his lifetime.
