White House launches ‘Trump TV’ as feud with major US media escalates

The White House has launched a 24-hour streaming channel dubbed “TRUMP TV: The Essentials Station,” offering viewers direct access to presidential appearances, administration announcements and selected moments from President Donald Trump’s administration.

The channel, launched on Monday, September 21, is available through the White House website and YouTube. The White House said the stream would provide real-time updates, major announcements and highlights from Trump’s presidency.

“Not every big moment has made it on your TV, now it can,” the White House said in announcing the initiative.

The launch comes against the backdrop of an intensifying dispute between the Trump administration and several major American news organisations over press access and coverage of the president.

On September 18, Trump announced that CNN, MS NOW and Politico would be barred from the White House, accusing the outlets of publishing what he described as “fake news.” Reporters from the three organisations were subsequently denied access to the White House grounds and had their credentials revoked.

The three media organisations have challenged the restrictions, arguing that the administration’s actions violate constitutional protections for the press. The dispute has also triggered wider concerns over the White House’s control of presidential media access.

The conflict escalated further when major television networks suspended participation in the presidential press pool in solidarity with the barred outlets. The traditional pool system allows participating news organisations to share coverage of presidential events where space is limited.

The launch of Trump TV therefore gives the White House a direct platform for distributing presidential video and administration messaging without relying exclusively on conventional television networks.

The development also follows earlier changes by the Trump administration to the organisation of the White House press pool. In addition, the Associated Press has previously been restricted from certain presidential events following a dispute over the agency’s continued use of the term “Gulf of Mexico” rather than “Gulf of America.”

The White House’s new streaming platform is expected to add another dimension to the ongoing debate over presidential access, government-controlled communications and the role of independent media in covering the US presidency.
