A Magistrate’s Court in Akure has ordered the remand of a 21-year-old carpenter, Anthony Alabi, at the Olokuta Correctional Centre following his arraignment over the alleged killing and sexual violation of a 58-year-old woman, Veronica Olaseni, in Iboropa-Akoko, Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on March 2, 2026, at approximately 2:30 p.m. on the deceased’s farm. Prosecutor Inspector Folashade Adebayo told the court that Alabi had gone to the farm to steal cashew nuts when he was recognised by the victim. To prevent identification, he allegedly strangled her.
Following the killing, Alabi reportedly confessed to engaging in a sexual act with the deceased, offering a chilling explanation to the court — “I didn’t want her body to waste, so I had intercourse with her corpse.”
The defendant also allegedly stole several items belonging to the victim, including an Infinix mobile phone valued at ₦150,000, a cutlass worth ₦10,000, and an Access Bank ATM card.
Alabi was arraigned on a two-count charge of murder and theft. He appeared in court without legal representation.
Presiding Magistrate Temitope Adurota declined to take the defendant’s plea, citing the court’s lack of jurisdiction over the gravity of the matter. She ordered his remand pending a formal advisory from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The case file has since been forwarded to the DPP, and the matter was adjourned to June 6 for mention.
