The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has donated and inaugurated an e-health facility at the Ondo State Specialist Hospital in Akure, aiming to significantly enhance healthcare delivery through the strategic integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
During the commissioning ceremony on Monday, June 2, 2025, NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, represented by Project Director Philip Eretan, emphasized that the initiative is part of the Commission’s commitment to leveraging ICT to improve healthcare services nationwide.
He stated that the e-health project is meticulously designed to streamline medical processes, enhance patient care, and facilitate efficient management of health records, thereby making healthcare services more accessible and effective for all Nigerians.
Dr. Maida highlighted that the project aligns seamlessly with NCC’s broader goal of integrating the health sector into the digital economy, noting that healthy citizens contribute more effectively to national development.
He added that the successful implementation of this project could serve as a model for similar initiatives across the country, encouraging wider adoption of digital health solutions.
Dr. Akintan also appealed to the NCC to provide adequate training for the hospital’s staff to ensure the project’s success and long-term sustainability, recognizing that effective utilization is key to maximizing the benefits of the new technology.
