4 causes of facial paralysis you should know

Facial nerve paralysis is caused by damage to the nerves that transmit signals from the brain to the facial muscles or from the brain to the face.

According to expert, here are some of the diseases and conditions that can cause this health problem.

Bell’s palsy 

Bell’s palsy is a common cause of facial paralysis. This condition is usually caused by inflammation of the facial nerve.

Stroke 

 

Facial nerve paralysis can also occur following a stroke. This usually occurs only in the lower part of the face and can include symptoms such as puckered lips, difficulty swallowing, slurred speech and paralysis on one side of the body.

Stroke is caused by damage to or rupture of a blood vessel in the brain. Lack of exercise, an unhealthy diet, and smoking increase the risk of developing the disease.

Ramsay-Hunt syndrome

Ramsey-Hunt syndrome is a rare neurological disorder characterised by facial paralysis, rashes in the ears and mouth, and tinnitus.

Tumours 

Facial paralysis can also be caused by brain tumours. Symptoms of this tumor are often accompanied by headaches, seizures, and hearing loss, in addition to facial paralysis.
