Youth empowerment in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State received a major boost on Friday, January 16, 2026, as Comrade Reuben Izeze, Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), in collaboration with the FOOSTODEY platform, facilitated a N1 million business support intervention for a local entrepreneur.

The funding, fully provided by United States–based consultant and specialist paediatrician, Dr. Anani Anthony, enabled Mr. Alex Bushell of Oginibo town to stock a newly rented shop, marking a significant step toward self-employment and economic independence.

This intervention follows a prior support of N200,000 under the Hon. Festus Eseoghene Utuama Empowerment Scheme, an initiative by the Delta State House of Assembly lawmaker representing Ughelli South Constituency.

The initial grant had allowed Mr. Bushell to secure a shop, but additional funding was needed to stock it. Dr. Anthony reportedly stepped in to cover the full N1 million, ensuring the shop is now fully operational.

Community members have lauded the development, describing it as timely and impactful in tackling youth unemployment and promoting grassroots entrepreneurship.

Speaking on the occasion, Comrade Izeze expressed gratitude to Dr. Anani Anthony for his timely intervention and to Hon. Utuama for championing an empowerment scheme that emphasizes practical and sustainable economic growth.

He reiterated the commitment of the organisers to work with duly elected representatives to further youth inclusion, self-reliance, and political discipline in Ughelli South and the wider Ughievwen Kingdom.

The empowerment exercise, which took place in Oginibo town, has been hailed as a positive demonstration of renewed socio-economic and political engagement in the area, offering hope to other young entrepreneurs aspiring to start their own businesses.
