Portable remains in custody as wife welcomes new baby amid court case

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, remains in detention even as his personal life records a major development, with his first wife, Omobewaji, reportedly giving birth to a baby.

The birth comes barely five days after the artiste was remanded in custody over a nine-count criminal charge. Portable was arraigned on Monday, January 12, 2026, before a Federal High Court in Ogun State, following allegations bordering on assault and other offences.

At the court sitting, the presiding judge declined to grant the singer bail, citing the absence of the police officer who was allegedly assaulted and whose testimony was considered critical to the bail application.

The court subsequently adjourned the matter, fixing January 19, 2026, for hearing on Portable’s bail request.

Despite his ongoing legal challenges, Omobewaji reportedly delivered a healthy baby while the singer remains behind bars.

Sources close to the family disclosed that Portable has been informed of the birth and received the news with excitement, expressing strong hopes of securing bail in order to meet his newborn child for the first time.

Meanwhile, actress and filmmaker Akinyanju Omobolarinde, popularly known as Ashabi Simple, who has been described as Portable’s fourth baby mama, has confirmed that the singer’s current legal troubles stem from a complaint she filed with the authorities.

Speaking with newsmen, Omobolarinde declined to go into details, noting that the matter is now before the court and should be allowed to follow due process. She said her priority at the moment is her mental and emotional well-being.

“He has been detained, and the matter is in court now,” she said. “I’m just taking care of my mental health.”

Portable’s detention continues to generate widespread public attention, as developments in his family life unfold alongside the legal proceedings. The outcome of his bail application next week is expected to determine his immediate freedom as the case progresses through the court.
