Nigeria international Paul Onuachu found the back of the net but endured a mixed outing as Trabzonspor were held to a 1–1 draw by Antalyaspor in a Turkish Super Lig encounter played on Friday.
Antalyaspor took the lead just two minutes before halftime when Sander Van de Streek struck to put the hosts ahead, leaving Trabzonspor trailing at the break despite enjoying spells of pressure.
The visitors responded strongly after the restart, with Onuachu at the centre of the action.
The towering striker won a penalty early in the second half and confidently converted from the spot, sending Antalyaspor goalkeeper Julian the wrong way to restore parity for Trabzonspor.
Trabzonspor were later handed a golden opportunity to complete the comeback when they were awarded a second penalty 11 minutes from time.
However, Onuachu was unable to replicate his earlier success, missing from the spot on this occasion as Antalyaspor held firm to secure a share of the points.
Despite the missed chance, the 31-year-old continues to enjoy an impressive campaign in Turkey. His goal against Antalyaspor took his tally to 13 league goals for the Black Sea Storm this season.
Onuachu is now joint top scorer in the Turkish Super Lig, level with Istanbul Başakşehir forward Eldor Shomurodov, underlining his importance to Trabzonspor’s title push.
The draw leaves Trabzonspor in third place on the league table with 42 points, four points adrift of leaders Galatasaray as the title race continues to intensify.
