Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai, has responded to an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for questioning over alleged corruption linked to his tenure in office.

El-Rufai, a prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), arrived at the EFCC headquarters accompanied by hundreds of supporters, reflecting his significant political backing.

The former governor had previously resisted an attempted arrest at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Thursday last week.

The airport incident sparked nationwide attention, with El-Rufai accusing the Office of the National Security Adviser, led by Nuhu Ribadu, of orchestrating the move.

In interviews following the airport episode, El-Rufai described the attempted arrest as politically motivated, questioning the legality and timing of the operation.

By appearing at EFCC headquarters voluntarily, El-Rufai signals readiness to engage with investigators, despite the high-profile tensions surrounding his case.

Authorities are expected to conduct thorough questioning regarding financial transactions and administrative decisions during his tenure as governor.

The EFCC has maintained that all invited individuals are expected to cooperate with ongoing investigations into allegations of mismanagement and corruption in public offices.

Supporters and political observers have closely monitored developments, interpreting El-Rufai’s appearance as a strategic move amid growing scrutiny of high-level corruption cases.

This development marks a continuation of a complex saga involving political, legal, and security dimensions in Nigeria’s fight against alleged corruption among former public officials.
