Lagos, Nigeria – Reports have emerged suggesting that the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, may resign from his federal post to contest for the governorship of Lagos State under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development comes amid growing speculation over who will succeed Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, who is serving his second and final term and is gradually winding down his administration.

While several names have circulated as potential successors, uncertainty continues to dominate discussions about the next leadership of Nigeria’s commercial hub.

Political observers note that Lagos State’s political succession often follows a structured pattern, with key stakeholders influencing decisions and the final endorsement generally requiring the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Among the names currently in the mix for the governorship are Lagos State Chief of Staff Hakeem Muri-Okunola, Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, Seyi Tinubu, Deputy Governor Femi Hamzat, and now, Minister Tunji Alausa.

The emergence of Alausa as a potential candidate is expected to further intensify the contest, as the race for Lagos governorship increasingly becomes a focal point in national and regional politics.

Political analysts believe that the coming weeks will be critical as aspirants strategize to secure key endorsements and consolidate support within the APC ahead of formal declarations.
