Police arrest Ozoro festival organiser, four others over alleged sexual assault in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has arrested Chief Omorede Sunday, the organiser of the Oramudu Festival in Ozoro community, alongside four other suspects following reports of alleged sexual assault and molestation of young women during the event.

The incident, which has sparked widespread concern, reportedly occurred during the Oramudu Festival held in Ozoro, a community in Delta State, where several female attendees were said to have been assaulted.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, strongly condemned the alleged acts, describing sexual violence as criminal, inhumane, and a serious violation of the fundamental rights and dignity of victims.

The police chief subsequently ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident, signaling the Command’s resolve to bring all perpetrators to justice.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the Commissioner directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for detailed handling.

“CP Aina Adesola has ordered that the case be immediately transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation,” the statement read.

Edafe further disclosed that both tactical and investigative units have been deployed with a clear mandate to identify, apprehend, and prosecute all individuals found culpable in the alleged offences.

The Command also appealed to members of the public, particularly victims and witnesses, to come forward with useful information that could aid the ongoing investigation, assuring that all information provided would be treated with strict confidentiality and professionalism.

While urging residents to remain calm and law-abiding, the Commissioner reassured the public of the police’s commitment to protecting lives, upholding citizens’ rights, and maintaining law and order across the state.

The Delta State Police Command reiterated its condemnation of the incident, vowing that all those involved in the alleged acts would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
