Arsenal defender Ben White has been recalled to the England national team for the first time since the 2022 World Cup.

The 28-year-old right-back had not featured for England since leaving the Qatar World Cup camp for personal reasons and subsequently made himself unavailable for selection during the remainder of Gareth Southgate’s tenure.

White returns to the fold for upcoming friendlies against Uruguay and Japan after Bayer Leverkusen’s Jarell Quansah withdrew from Thomas Tuchel’s 35-man squad due to injury.

The defender has earned four caps for England, last appearing in a 3-0 victory over Ivory Coast in March 2022.

Real Madrid right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold remains absent from the squad, while Arsenal teammate Eberechi Eze is also unavailable. Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes, 28, has been called up in his place; he won his only England cap six years ago.

England will host Uruguay at Wembley on Friday, followed by a clash with Japan on March 31.
